Cloud Security Engineer (Remote - UK Based)

Oakwell Hampton are excited to be partnered with a Renewable Energy Tech Company who are seeking an experienced Cloud Security Engineer. You will be joining a newly formed security team within the business. You’ll play a crucial role in securing the cloud environment, integrating security practices, and shaping a culture of security.


This is a creative and collaborative position that is a full-time member of an AWS-focused, agile engineering organization. The role will work closely with the development and platform teams to help them follow crucial security principles and industry best practices. The role and responsibilities

  • Setup and maintain monitoring, metrics, and reporting systems for fine-grained security observability of the cloud environment and actionable alerting.
  • Monitor and respond to security incidents and vulnerabilities, and remediate security misconfigurations.
  • Design and implement secure cloud architecture.
  • Implement standards and policies to safeguard workloads and the cloud infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with product teams to integrate security best practices into cloud-based applications.
  • Plan and implement solutions for backup and recovery, high availability, secrets and key management, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Conduct regular security checks and audits, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Act as a technical security professional, providing advice and guidance to other team members and the wider business.
  • Help cultivate a strong technical security culture across the organization.
  • Collaborate with external pen-testing companies to help evaluate the security for all aspects of our cloud infrastructure.
  • Work with our delivery teams to ensure our services adhere to the AWS Well-Architected Framework (Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimization, and Sustainability).


Experience

  • A strong technical security background.
  • Multiple years of Security experience, preferably within cloud technologies. AWS certifications are highly welcomed.
  • Competence in incident response planning, vulnerability management, security event management, supported by strong knowledge of tooling and detection techniques.
  • Firm understanding of IAM and RBAC, with an emphasis on applying the Least Privilege principle.
  • Strong experience in implementing and automating security best practices.
  • Experience working with teams around the globe.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Experience working with infrastructure as code tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, and CDK.


Nice to haves

  • Foundational networking knowledge, such as switching, firewalls, routing, and DNS.
  • AWS networking knowledge, such as VPCs, Transit Gateways, and how this works in a multi-region environment.
