Staff AI Engineer

My client are a fast-growing, VC-backed startup building foundational tools for medical practices, starting with voice automation.

Their platform uses voice AI to automate outbound calls to insurance companies and pharmacies, freeing up healthcare staff to focus on patients rather than paperwork. With a human-sounding AI agent and a modern tech stack, they're reshaping how operations run behind the scenes in medical offices across the country.

This role is ideal for a backend engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys solving hard systems problems, and has a strong product sense. AI/LLM/Voice AI experience is a bonus, but not required.

What You’ll Do:

• Be the technical lead and key IC for a growing backend team
• Design lean, reliable systems using Python (FastAPI, Django) and AWS
• Maintain and evolve secure, scalable infrastructure (SOC 2/HIPAA)
• Tackle complex workflow challenges in a high-compliance space
• Bring experience and foresight to a product scaling rapidly

What They're Looking For:

• 6+ years of backend development experience
• Deep expertise in Python and modern web frameworks
• Strong systems design and architecture skills
• Experience with relational databases and performance tuning
• Based in NYC or willing to relocate
